NAP consistency (NAP)

Name, Address, Phone — the consistency of these three fields across the web is a top local-SEO signal.

Definition

In long form.

NAP consistency means every public mention of a business — Google Business Profile, Apple Maps, Bing Places, Yelp, Facebook, BBB, industry directories, the business's own website — uses the exact same name, address, and phone number. Variations ('St.' vs 'Street', '(571)' vs '571.' vs '+1 571', or different unit numbers) confuse local-search algorithms and dilute ranking signal. The fix is tedious but high-leverage: audit all citations, pick one canonical NAP, propagate everywhere.

In context

On our own audits, NAP inconsistency is the most common Local SEO issue and the most fixable. We use a citation-management tool (or manual audit for smaller footprints) to identify and correct mismatches across the top 30–50 local citation sites.
