Google Search Console (GSC)

Google's free dashboard showing how a site appears in search — queries, clicks, impressions, indexing status, and crawl errors.

Definition

In long form.

Search Console is the source of truth for organic search performance. It reports actual queries that drove clicks, page-by-page click-through rates, indexing coverage, sitemap status, mobile usability, Core Web Vitals (from real-user CrUX data), structured-data validity, and security/manual-action notifications. It's the only first-party view of how Google sees a site. The newer Insights view summarizes top-performing content; the API allows pulling 16 months of query data programmatically.

In context

We never accept an SEO client without GSC access. Without it, every recommendation is a guess. Setting up GSC for a new property is a 10-minute task that unlocks every subsequent decision.
