Anchor text
The visible, clickable text of a hyperlink — a relevance signal for both the linking page and the destination.
In long form.
Anchor text gives search engines a hint about what the linked page is about. Descriptive anchors ('our accessibility audit process') are SEO and accessibility wins; generic anchors ('click here', 'read more') waste the signal and confuse screen-reader users navigating by link list. For external backlinks, anchor diversity matters — over-optimized exact-match anchors can trigger link-spam penalties.
Internal linking with descriptive anchors is one of the easiest on-page wins. We replace 'click here' patterns with concrete phrasing during every content audit — usually a measurable lift on the destination page within weeks.
